Studio Starr (Website)(x)

Our aim is to develop creative that perfectly resonates between exhibition and audience. To engage, to inspire, to educate. To always elevate the visitor experience.

We have delivered projects of significance for over two decades. From blockbusters and triennials, mid-size shows and collection hangs to pop-ups and mini activations. All deadlines met. All projects delivered.

Timelines usually contract, they rarely expand. Our extensive experience with exhibitions of varying span and scale allow us to effectively prioritise requirements and efficiently respond to changing dynamics.

We know the exhibition curation, development and delivery process can be stressful. We recognise the pressure points. We understand the challenges. An essential part of our role, therefore, is to facilitate an empathetic process that alleviates and diffuses anxiety.

Exhibition Co-curator
Pop Masters: Art from the Mugrabi Collection
HOTA Gallery

Studio Starr was a joy to work with. On both the exhibition 2D design and exhibition catalogue they understood our aims for the project and who our audience was.

Working to demanding timeframes Chris developed an exhibition identity that felt perfect for HOTA, that celebrated the art and the themes of the project in a fresh, contemporary and ambitious way. His work in extending this to the exhibition installation and publication was seamless. Under tight deadlines his collaborative, solutions-focussed approach was vital in keeping the project on-time and on-budget.
Head Exhibitions, Interpretation & Engagement
Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House

Studio Starr’s impressive multi-disciplinary toolkit was critically important to the success of Hivemind. This was a complex project requiring expertise in branding, exhibition design & wayfinding signage, collateral development, photography as well as a sophisticated digital and social campaign. The team worked seamlessly with me across each of these elements to craft a highly successful event and exhibition that benchmarks museum best practice. I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Design Community

Chris and I worked together on Henry Halloran and the Great Australian Dream for the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum. Chris was a great collaborator: flexible, creative, and responsive throughout the duration of the project. His graphics were strong, striking, and complemented the 3D designs perfectly to create a cohesive exhibition.
Acting Head of Exhibitions
Museum of Brisbane

Museum of Brisbane has worked with Studio Starr on many branding, exhibition and design projects for over 10 years. Creative Director Chris brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and exceptional design to his projects. We know when we work with Chris, we will have a great outcome.
Exhibition Coordinator
Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House

I've worked with Chris Starr on Museum of Australian Democracy’s annual Behind the Lines exhibition on three occasions. He has demonstrated a strong understanding of the project and the logistics of museum processes. His collaborative style and capacity to pivot makes him easy to work with and a supportive stakeholder. His clear communication regarding capacity and timing has greatly assisted in the successful delivery of this highly popular exhibition.
Exhibitions Officer
City of Moreton Bay Galleries and Museums

For two years I worked with Studio Starr directly on a number of design projects for the City of Moreton Bay Galleries and Museums, from small scale hands-on children’s exhibits, through to the branding and design of large scale touring exhibitions. In particular, I reached out to Chris to help us design the touring exhibition Play: the old fashioned way opening at Redcliffe Museum. Chris understood the brief perfectly, communicating clearly his ideas and concepts, meeting our every deadline and design requirement. Studio Starr is a uniquely creative studio, reliable and incredibly flexible throughout all collaboration processes, and I couldn’t recommend a design studio more highly.
